Kevin M. Lyons

Kevin is the Managing Member of Lyons Law Group, LLC. Kevin has over 25 years of experience in commercial transactional and litigation law. His experience and skill lie in the intersection of business and law. His practice focuses on businesses and their owners, providing transactional and litigation services to business organizations and individuals in the Chicagoland area. His business client base ranges from start-up businesses to established family-owned businesses, and to publicly traded companies. While the majority of his clients are located in the Chicagoland area, his clients span numerous countries across several continents and include clients from every region of the United States.

Kevin’s broad legal background has provided him with extensive knowledge of commercial, intellectual property, employment, contracts and estate planning matters in both the transactional and litigation contexts. He is an adept negotiator and collaborator with a track record of resolving complex cases. He draws upon his experience from being “on the other side of the table” as in-house counsel and vice president of a local technology company, which has given him insight into the role of the business lawyer in relation to the business. A sampling of his recent transactional work includes drafting and negotiating agreements related to equity investments, asset acquisitions, shareholder buy-outs, confidentiality (“non-disclosures”), restrictive covenants (“non-competes”), employment, consulting, and commercial leases. A sampling of his recent litigation work includes breach of fiduciary duty, will and trust contests, accounting malpractice, trade secrets, shareholder derivative actions, breach of contract, property damage defense, and fraud. Kevin advises business owners and individuals in wealth preservation, asset protection, estate planning, real estate, and business-related issues. Kevin has tried commercial litigation cases at the circuit court level and has argued cases before the Illinois Appellate Courts, including the Illinois Supreme Court. Prior to forming his own practice, Kevin worked as an associate attorney for mid-sized law firms in Chicago’s Loop, which he left for an in-house counsel position at a technology company located in Chicago. Kevin opened his own practice in 2009 and has successfully lead Lyons Law Group, LLC for more than 15 years. Kevin has served on the board of several companies and has been an invited guest speaker and presenter at several industry trade conferences.

Kevin earned his B.A. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 1994. He was awarded a J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1997, where he was President of the Student Bar Association, President of the Public Interest Law Foundation, and a Student Representative on the Chicago Inn of Court. Kevin is a member of the DuPage County, Illinois State, and Kane County Bar Associations.

PROFESSIONAL AND CIVIC INVOLVEMENT

Kevin is a Sustaining Member of the DuPage County Bar Association, and a Member of the Illinois State Bar Association and Kane County Bar Association. Kevin provides pro bono legal services for several non-profit organizations. He has served on the PTA board of his children’s school, coached youth sports at the Downers Grove Park District, and has been an active member of the local YMCA. Kevin enjoys swimming, running, and cycling, and he participates in triathlons and races when his schedule permits him to do so.
