Stephanie E. Kopalski

Stephanie’s area of practice lies not only in commercial transactional and litigation matters but also the nexus between them.  Stephanie is uniquely suited for resolving the complex issues faced by businesses and their owners, whether it be in the boardroom or the courtroom.

As a litigator, Stephanie represents clients involved in commercial and business litigation, including breach of contract, shareholder and partner disputes, breach of fiduciary duty, trade secrets, business torts, and fraud, as well as estate and trust disputes, among others. Stephanie has experience at the trial level, as well as the appellate level, including both Illinois Appellate Courts and the Illinois Supreme Court. She gives the same attention to detail and effort to her six figure cases as she does to her seven figure cases. In short, each client receives her best.

On the transactional side, Stephanie has taken companies from start to finish, i.e. formation, operation, growth, and exit through merger or acquisition. On the formation side, she has formed everything from tech start-ups to complex family-owned business structures. Her position requires her to draft operating agreements, shareholder agreements, buy-sell agreements, employment agreements, contractor agreements, master services agreements, NDAs, LOIs/MOUs, commercial leases, and asset or share sale documents. Though she has headed business sales and acquisitions as small as $60,000 and partnered on sale transactions as large as $120 Million, her typical deal ranges from $1 Million to $10 Million.

The most surprising fact about Stephanie is that English is not even her first language; nor is it her second.  But it is her third, followed by Spanish. Stephanie earned her B.A. in Spanish and History, Cum Laude, from DePaul University in 2013. Stephanie was awarded a Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in 2016, where she served as a legal research assistant to her constitutional law professor. She is fluent in Polish, conversant in Spanish, and wishes she remembered more of her French.  Her language skills already have proven to be a great benefit to the clients of the Lyons Law Group, primarily in her brief and contract drafting, as well as her oral argument in the courtroom. If Stephanie’s work ethic is rooted in her status as a naturalized citizen, her zealous advocacy for her clients and competitive advantage is rooted in her love of soccer (Go France! And Bayern Munich!) and hockey (Go Blackhawks!). Stephanie is an active member of the DuPage County, Chicago, and Illinois State Bar Associations. She an active member of American Inns of Court, DuPage Chapter and Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. And, of course, Stephanie is an active member of the Polish-American community.
